What it actually does

Sentry is not a live video feed. It sits still, waits for movement, and collects what happened while you were not there.

Records only when something moves

Arm it and walk away. Movement starts the recording, stillness ends it, and each clip lands in your photo library ready to watch.

Built for the dark

A light-gathering sensor format and a longer shutter pull detail out of rooms where the normal camera gives up and returns noise.

Recording is always visible

A red dot stays on screen for as long as recording lasts, and there is no setting to switch it off. Photos play the standard shutter sound.

Nothing leaves your phone

No sign-up, no cloud, no subscription. Sentry has no networking code at all, so it works with the phone in airplane mode.

Long nights, kept

Recordings are saved in chunks as they run, so a flat battery in hour three costs you minutes rather than the whole session.

Give an old iPhone a job

Point a spare handset at the garage, the garden or the sofa, leave it on a charger, and check the footage in the morning.

Set it down and walk away

Free on iPhone and iPad, running iOS 18 or later.
