# If users leave your app at the login screen, ask why the login is there

If most people who download your app leave at the login screen, find out why the login is there before you pay anyone to redesign it.

An owner posted recently that they had paid to build an app for their local business, and most new users never got past the first screen. It asked for an account before showing anything.

Asking a stranger for an email and a password before they have seen a price or a time slot is a lot to ask. A common approach is to let people browse first and ask for an account at booking or payment. Whether that works for your app depends on two questions for whoever built it.

Why is the login there at all? Sometimes it was a design choice. Sometimes the booking or loyalty system behind the app needs a customer record before it can show anything, which makes removing it a bigger job than it looks.

And where exactly do people leave? Ask whether the app records drop-off screen by screen. If it does not, adding that is a small job, and it belongs before any redesign.

Then get the change quoted at a fixed price with a date. A builder who can explain why the wall is there can usually tell you what moving it costs.
