The official verdict, not ours
Inside Spain the app never publishes a figure it computed itself; it publishes the
Instituto Geográfico Nacional’s, for every municipality in the country. A textbook
calculation and the official table disagree at the edge of the path, and at the edge is
exactly where you need to be right.

Honest when it’s too close to call
Almería reaches magnitude 1.00 on the day and still sees no totality. The umbral limit
runs between towns, not around them, so when the municipalities around you disagree with
each other Eclipse says so instead of guessing, and names the nearest place that does
get it. From Almería that is Roquetas de Mar, 16 km down the coast.

Four minutes at the Strait, ninety seconds inland
Ceuta 4 min 49 s, Tarifa 4 min 38 s, Algeciras 4 min 27 s, then Cádiz 2 min 55 s and
Málaga 1 min 49 s. Where you stand decides how long it lasts. The Sun is 37–41° up in
the east at 10:47, so you need a gap in the sky rather than a clear horizon, and a live
compass shows you which one.

Cloud cover, the one thing maths can’t answer
The hourly forecast at maximum eclipse, so you can decide whether to drive. And until
the forecast is far enough out to be trustworthy, it says so rather than showing you a
number nobody should act on.

Then the ring, in January 2028
On 26 January 2028 an annular eclipse crosses Spain at sunset and 3,078
municipalities sit under the ring: Barcelona, València, Sevilla, Málaga,
Murcia. The Sun is a median 3° above the horizon, and in Barcelona it sets while the
ring is still closed. A ring is not a totality: at no moment is it safe to look, and the
app is built so it can never suggest otherwise.

Fully offline, and it rolls over by itself
Every municipality, path and calculation ships inside the app, so it works where the
network does not. Both eclipses are already bundled: the day after the 2026 eclipse the
app moved itself on to 2027, with no update and no App Store round trip. It will do the
same again in August.
