How the game changed
Strategy as an ecosystem: watch serve-and-volley collapse, rallies lengthen and the run-around forehand take over. Charted matches lean toward big events and star players, so read these trends, not exact levels. Pre-1995 years are pooled in five-year bins.

Do groundstrokes warm up?
Every rally shot from the third shot on, scored against what the same choice usually yields from the same position, then averaged by where in the match it was hit. Both players' shots count, so this is how cleanly rallies are played, not who wins them. Whiskers are 90% margins, clustered by match.
Shots come off worst in the first ten points and keep improving into the deciding set. Tennis Abstract found the same warm-up in raw error rates; this version holds the difficulty of each position fixed. Later sets are partly selection: long matches are the close, well-played ones. Whether one player drifts more than another is mostly noise: a player's odd and even matches barely agree (split-half reliability -0.14 ATP, 0.28 WTA), so it isn't shown per player.
ATP styles as an ecosystem
Share of points each tactical archetype wins against the other archetypes, by five-year era. Teal beats the field and clay loses to it. A style that rises and then fades as the others adapt is a tactical cycle. Archetypes come from career fingerprints, so a player keeps one label for the whole career.
