Coding and design keep getting cheaper

Coding and design keep getting cheaper. What costs business owners money now is quality uncertainty, because it turns every launch into a hidden warranty.

Most teams think QA means “testing before release.” In practice, QA is where you decide what you will honor when things go weird. If “done” is fuzzy, sales sells assumptions, operations plans on best case, finance forecasts stability, and the customer finds the edge cases first. The bill shows up as refunds, rework, churn, and distracted leadership.

Modern QA is a business control system. Clear acceptance criteria tied to customer promises, a staging setup that matches real conditions, monitoring that catches issues before customers do, and a habit of turning each incident into a permanent guardrail. The friction is incentives. If teams are pushed for speed, quality becomes optional until it becomes urgent.

You can see it in Tesla’s software recalls, Boston Scientific’s recall classification, and Philips Respironics’ usage guidance. When building is abundant, trust is the scarce asset, and QA is how you protect it.
