Most founders don't run out of ideas

Most founders don't run out of ideas. They run out of time, money, and patience… …because they built too much of the wrong thing.

Last month I spoke with a founder who had a "simple" app in mind. The dev shop quoted 3 months. Six months later, the bill was double and the app still wasn't launch-ready.

Why? • Features were added mid-build ("we might as well add this now"). • The developer misunderstood what the founder actually wanted. • Estimates ballooned because nobody had nailed down what "done" looked like.

I've seen the same movie play out over and over: scope creep → misinterpretation → budget blowout.

It's not about writing more specs. It's about writing the right ones. A clear, standardized feature roadmap removes 80% of these headaches before a single line of code is written.

A good roadmap will: 1. Lock in a Minimum Viable Product scope founders can actually ship. 2. Translate vision into developer-friendly language. 3. Surface hidden pitfalls before they eat your budget. 4. Make estimates comparable across dev shops, apples to apples.

After years of advising founders, I've built and refined a template that does exactly this, saving thousands in wasted time and keeping launches on schedule.

If you want a copy, comment ROADMAP below and I'll send it over. It's the same template I use to help founders get clarity, prevent scope creep, and compare quotes without the guesswork.
