In a mid-market business, the default move is to "ship the portal", "add the app", "stand up the CRM". Budget is tight, teams are thin, and everyone wants visible progress.
So AI accelerates delivery, modern UI kits make flows look polished, and distribution is a spend away. It feels like control.
Then the loss shows up later: a stack nobody can simplify, features that trained customers to expect the wrong thing, and leaders who cannot tell whether the problem is product, process, or pricing.
Salesforce does not fix a fuzzy workflow. Microsoft Copilot does not rescue a broken decision. Shopify does not clarify which customers you should stop serving.
The advantage is not being "AI-native". It is treating product leadership as continuous sense-making: what to build, when to change, what to remove.
Most teams only learn that after their second rebuild, when "more output" is the thing making them less responsive.
The uncomfortable question is what you are still refusing to delete.
