What it checks

The serial on a US bill carries more than it looks. The first letters name the series and the Federal Reserve Bank, a star in place of the last letter marks a replacement note, and the eight digits can form patterns collectors pay for. A star note is worth keeping when its print run was small, so this lookup finds the exact run your serial came from in the government's production figures and tells you how many notes shared it.

It will not price a note or say whether it is genuine. No price guide for US paper money can be licensed, and authenticity cannot be judged from a serial.
