Inside most companies, the backlog becomes a proxy for certainty. Teams slice work into sprints, ship incrementally, and still miss because the riskiest assumptions were never tested. The real constraint is not cycle time, it is access to customer truth. The evolution is simple and uncomfortable. Treat hypotheses as first-class work, and make rapid tests the default deliverable before scale. The mechanism is the same: tight ownership of insight, short feedback loops, and decisions that move only after the market speaks.
